Akai MPC 1000 - Tutorial Part 3 - Note repeat to Roland JX-8P - MIDIVERSE TV

Here's the third video from our Akai MPC sampler series, and in this video we pair up the Akai MPC 1000 with a Roland JX-8P Polyphonic Synthesizer.

We're using the M-Audio Axiom 61 as a MIDI controller keyboard, the Akai MPC1000 as the MIDI sequencer, and the Roland JX-8P as the sound source. So the MIDI routing is as follows: Axiom 61 MIDI out to MPC1000 MIDI input, and  MPC1000 out to JX-8P MIDI input.

Akai MPC 1000 - Tutorial #2 - Sequencing external synth gear via MIDI

Akai MPC 1000 - Tutorial #2 - Sequencing external synth gear - Click Here

Here's the second video from our Akai MPC sampler series, and in this video we pair up the Akai MPC 1000 with an E-MU Mo'Phatt sound module. We demonstrate the Mo'Phatt's ability to transmit different patches on different MIDI channels.

For this demonstration we have the patches laid out as follows:
Midi Channel #1 - Hi Hats
Midi Channel #2 - Kick Drum
Midi Channel #3 - Snare Drum
Midi Channel #4 - Bass synth
ect, ect...

Where every track on the MPC is set to the following MIDI Channel:

Track 1 = Channel 1A
Track 2 = Channel 2A
Track 3 = Channel 3A
ect, ect..

Where MIDI A - Out from the MPC1000 goes to the MIDI in on the Mo'Phatt.

For the MIDI controller we'll be using the pads on the MPC1000 and the keyboard from the Novation Bass Station 2.

Casio PT-100 Demo (modded with audio output, not bent) - MIDIVERSE TV

Casio PT-100 Demo/Review video - Click Here!

In this episode of MIDI-VERSE TV we check out the Casio PT-100. This particular PT-100 has been modified by myself, I added a proper quarter inch audio output jack. Although this disconnected the built in speaker, this allows me to run the audio directly into an audio interface and into Ableton Live. In this video we briefly show how the mod was made, go over the presets, and then hear some sounds with some ping pong delay added from Ableton Live.

Akai MPC 1000 - Tutorial Part 1 - Making programs (the easy way) and note repeat - MIDIVERSE TV

Akai MPC 1000 - Tutorial #1 Video - Click Here

Google 'MPC Maid' to download the software that I used in this tutorial video.

Here's a quick tutorial on a much faster way of making drum and sample programs for your Akai MPC sampler. In this example we'll be using the Akai MPC 1000 Sampler/Sequencer and the "MPC Maid" software to create drum programs the easy way. Then I'll also be showing you some very quick and basic drum sequencing tips using the note repeat and note quantization settings.

This software and this sequencing technique will work on both the Akai MPC1000 and the Akai MPC2500. I did not create this "MPC Maid" software, and by no means am I taking credit for doing so. It's just a great piece of free software that allows building programs on the MPC so much easier. Perhaps in a future episode we'll show off some of its other features like sample slicing for example.

This is just the first video in a multiple part series on the classic Akai MPC, so be sure to subscribe so you don't miss the next one. Also check out our last video that demonstrates using the MPC's sequencer to drive external synthesizers.

Akai Miniak & Akai MPC1000 - Basic MIDI CC Data Sequencing - MIDIVERSE TV

Akai MPC1000 & Akai Miniak - MIDI CC Sequencing demo - Click here

Here's a quick video on how to record MIDI CC data using a MIDI sequencer. For this demonstration we're using the Akai Miniak Virtual Analog Synthesizer as the MIDI Controller and Sound Module (for the lead sound), and we're using the Akai MPC1000 Sampler/Sequencer to record the MIDI sequences from the keyboard, as well as using some samples from the TR-808 for the drum track.

So to explain this setup a little bit further, for this demonstration the Miniak is set to MIDI channel #1. We have MIDI going out of the synth and into the drum machine, and out of the drum machine and into the synth. This allows us to send the part we're playing from the keyboard to the MPCs sequencer. In this case we're using a 2 bar loop, so the part is the recorded into the sequencer. From there the MIDI information is sent from the sequencer back to the synthesizer where the sound is made. Since this particular synthesizer has knobs and mod wheels that send MIDI CC data, we're able to record those patterns while we turn the knobs and the mod wheels. This allows for automated patterns to be saved with the sequences, which makes things quite a bit more interesting.

This is an idea that took me a while to grasp when I first started getting involved with MIDI, synthesizers, and just music production in general. That's what made me want to make this tutorial video, I hope it helps.

In fact, I've decided to do an entire video tutorial series on the Akai MPC sampler series... so be sure to check back soon, and subscribe to the youtube channel.
